Monte Albán


Monte Albán was the oldest capital of the zapotecas and one of the more populated during its zenith, it was founded approximately 500 years B.C., and rising 750 A.D. Located in center of the Oaxacan Valley, Monte Albán exerted political, economic and ideological control on other communities in the surrounding valley and mountains.

Its main constructions: La Gran Plaza (The Great Plaza), Juego de Pelota (The Ball Game), Sistema II, Los Danzantes, Building "J", Central Buildings G.H.I., The Palace, South Platform, Sistema 7 Venado and Tomb No. 7, The Great Plaza. Has 200 meters of length by 200 meters of wide.
